Mangaluru, Dec 24, 2022: The issue over the incomplete Suratkal market works has snowballed into a major controversy with allegations and counter-allegations. State Minister for Urban Development Byrathi Basavaraj told the assembly that the previous Congress government had failed in ensuring proper provision of land and in taking up the work in a systematic manner resulting in the suspension of the work.
The Minister also stated that a grant of Rs 82 crore has been released for the market project as per the appeal of the local MLA Bharath Shetty. Earlier, Shetty had raised a question regarding the market project for which the minister replied as above and said the work would begin following the tender process.
However, former MLA of Suratkal and Congress leader Moidin Bava has fumed over this development and alleged that the market project was sidelined after Bharath Shetty became the MLA. He also alleged that an attempt was made to blame the Congress and even went on to claim that the MLA’s question in the assembly and the minister’s reply was pre-planned.
He has also said a protest would be staged against this in the days to come.
