Sullia jan 9, 2013 : A licensed surveyor working in the Survey Department at Sullia was trapped red handed by the Lokayukta sleuths while he was accepting bribe from a person who had applied for a survey of his land. Interestingly, in this case the corrupt surveyor was caught not in his office, but in a bar.
It is learnt, the surveyor Sharat Kumar from Chennapatna who was working in the office since the past three years, had demanded Rs 4500 for survey, plotting and sketch of a 1.25 acre land of one Padmanabha Koingaje of Kolchar village.
However, it is said, he later demanded Rs 6000. Though a part of the amount i.e Rs 3200 was paid, the surveyor reportedly began to harass the applicant by not issuing the documents until the full amount was paid.
Interestingly, he asked the applicant to pay the balance amount at a particular bar. Padmanabha then approached the Lokayukta with a complaint and the surveyor was caught while he was accepting the bribe at the bar on January 8, Tuesday.
