Mangaluru, March 6, 2025: As many as 44 inmates of the Mangaluru district prison were admitted to Government Wenlock Hospital, following suspected food poisoning, on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Dakshina Kannada District Health and Family Welfare Officer H.T. Thimmaiah, the prison inmates had ‘avalakki’ (flattened rice) for breakfast and rice and sambar for lunch. In the afternoon, some inmates vomitted and a few had diarrhoea. The inmates were brought in three police vans to the hospital where they are undergoing treatment.
Dr. Thimmaiah said the condition of all the unwell prison inmates is stable.
Food inspectors have taken samples of food and water for testing, he added.
