Suspicious death of woman; minor son of sister taken into custody

Puttur, June 18, 2024: Uppinangady Police have taken a minor boy to custody in connection with the suspicious death of a woman at Darkasu in Biliyooru near Uppinangady.

The decased is Hemavathi while the accused is the son of Hemavathi’s elder sister. He is an SSLC student. Initially, it was suspected that Hemavathi (37) died of cardiac arrest on the night of June 16. Police have also taken into custody the father and another brother of the accused for questioning.

Hemavathi who was a divorcee lived with her mother and worked at a canteen in Boluvaru. After her sister died six years ago, the latter’s husband and three sons lived in a small house next to her house.

On June 16, one of the sons of Hemavathi’s sister had stayed with Hemavathi and Kamala. The next morning Hemavathi was found dead. Investigations later revealed that she was strangled.

Further probe is underway.
