Mangalore, Jan 12,2013 : A youth rally organized in connection with the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Swami Vivekananda, was flagged off at Balmatta grounds in Mangalore on January 12, Saturday by senior Congress leader B Janardhana Poojari by handing over the national flag to young delegates. The rally concluded at Milagres grounds.
Speaking at a function held at the Milagres Hall, Poojari said the programme aimed at disseminating the ideals and thoughts of Swami Vivekananda who was a youth icon and a global face of India. The youth should draw inspiration from the towering personality, he said.
Rajya Sabha Member Oscar Fernandes who also spoke said Swami Vivekananda strived to promote peace and brotherhood on the spiritual foundation. He also played a key role in popularizing Vedanta and yoga to the western world, Oscar further added. He said purity, patience and perseverance will help youth achieve their goals in life.
Prof. Ijazuddin gave a lecture on Swami Vivekananda. Several Congress leaders including Mayor Gulzar Banu, PV Mohan, Mamatha Gatti, JR Lobo, Ivan D’Souza, Vijaynath Vittal Shetty and others were present.
