Mangalore, January 8: Team Mangalore’s ‘Pushpaka Vimana’ kite, designed by Dinesh Holla, bagged first place at the three day international level kite festival held in the Udayapur of the state of Rajasthan from January 5 to 7.

National team as well as teams from foreign nation has also participated in three day International kite festival.  In Udayapur kite festival, Kites, designed by Jodhpur and Netherlands teams have secured second and third places respectively.


Team Mangalore, a kite for hobby group formed with the aim to uphold Indian tradition, culture and art all around the world recently participated in the Dieppe International Kite Festival, France. The team comprising of Sarvesh Rao, Prashanth Upadhyaya( MRPL), Dinesh Holla and Subhash Pai( MRPL), took part in the international event with one seventy five other participants from over fourty two countries like Nepal, Indonesia, Pakistan, England, Netherlands etc.


Team Mangalore had participated in international kite festivals at Canada, and England. The team has also won Best International Kite award for its fabulous collection of kites. Its Kathkali kite has been entered into the Limca Book of Records as the largest kite of India. The other unique kite creations include Yakshagana, Gajaraj and Bootha Kola kites.


Mythology says that several mythological characters including Ravana and Lord Indra used Pushpaka Vimana and in fact mythology also says that it was in this flying machine that Ravana took Sita to Lanka.
