Mangaluru, April 27, 2025: With more than one Aadhaar number being linked with All Electric Home (AEH) meters in houses, tenants in those houses are unable to register to avail benefit of upto 200 units of free power under the Gruha Jyothi scheme of the Karnataka government.
Dakshina Kannada District Guarantee Scheme Implementation Committee president Bharath Mundodi said the committee has received complaints from tenants about difficulty in registering for the Gruha Jyothi scheme.
“In the meeting held few days ago, the issue was deliberated. Deliberations of the meeting are sent for consideration of State-level guarantee implementation committee headed by H.M. Revanna,” Mr. Mundodi said.
An officer from MESCOM, who is overlooking implementation of the scheme, said when the scheme got implemented, only Aadhaar linking of beneficiaries was only allowed. Though only one Aadhar number is allowed for one AEH meter, there are several meters that have multiple Aadhar connections. There was no provision to delink the Aadhaar once the tenant vacates the rented house.
Only three months ago, the government provided enabled the Aadhaar de-linking facility on account of shifting to new house or because of lack of interest in continuing with the scheme.
The MESCOM officer said though a tenant got his/her Aadhaar de-linked from the meter related his old house, one failed to get Aadhaar linked to the new rented house meter as previously linked Aadhaar of earlier tenants continue to exist.
“We are not authorised to de-link other Aadhaar numbers as linking/ de-linking is to be done through Aadhar authentication,” the officer said. The problem for tenants in linking with meters has is being faced by people across the State, he said.
The Seva Sindhu portal of the government related to guarantee schemes has sent to ESCOMs the list of about AEH meters that are connected with more than one Aadhar number.
“The sub-divisions will shortly take up the exercise of calling each of these persons and disconnect the numbers and allow those staying in the house avail benefit of the scheme,” the officer said.
How to register or delink
Those, who want to register or delink from Gruha Jyothi scheme, have to do it on the website sevasindhugs.karnataka.gov.in.
The website will show information of all the five schemes. After clicking on the Gruha Jyothi scheme, it will lead to the box that gives the option of filing application for new registration and de-linking of Aadhar.
If you have moved from old house to a new house, then choose “Delink” option first. After entering the Aadhar number and completing the authentication exercise, the details of account to which it is linked appears. After giving reason for delinking, the Aadhaar get de-linked.
Then application for fresh registration has to be filled where too the Aadhar authentication needs to be done once again.
