Bantwal, March 9, 2025: The young boy Diganth from Farangipete in Bantwal taluk, who had been missing for several days, has now been suddenly found. The mystery surrounding his disappearance has raised countless questions. Where had Diganth been all these days? What was he doing? Why did he disappear in the first place, and how was he found? These questions have puzzled everyone.
Like a plot straight out of a Bollywood movie, the case of Diganth’s disappearance has finally concluded on a happy note. Diganth comes from a joint family and is said to be a very intelligent boy who excelled in academics. However, due to the nature of joint family dynamics, it is reported that his parents might not have paid much serious attention to him. Despite being a high achiever in school, Diganth had recently lost interest in his studies and had become increasingly withdrawn.
A few days before his disappearance, Diganth, who had become addicted to mobile phones, was reportedly scolded by his parents. Mentally distressed, the boy decided to leave home, seeking solace and a place to start afresh. According to sources, Diganth left home and ended up near a railway track. While wandering, he injured his foot and found it difficult to walk with his slippers, so he abandoned them and continued barefoot.
The discovery of a bloodstained slipper near the railway track sparked suspicions and gave rise to numerous theories about his disappearance. Hindu organizations even staged protests, pressuring the police to intensify their search for him. Amidst all this, Diganth, who had been walking along the railway tracks, eventually made his way to a marriage hall near the national highway. From there, he caught a bike ride to Mangaluru’s State Bank area.
Uncertain of his next steps, the boy boarded a bus to Shivamogga and later traveled to Mysuru. He had carried some money from home, which he used to buy clothes and explore Mysuru. From Mysuru, he boarded a train to Bengaluru and alighted at Kengeri. There, he survived by eating leftover food and wandered around the area. Eventually, he ran out of money.
Desperate to earn some money, Diganth approached a resort in Bengaluru, requesting work. He was employed there for two days and earned ₹500. With this money, he traveled back to Mysuru, where he ate and roamed aimlessly before boarding a train to Udupi.
During his journey, he noticed the ongoing police search for him near the spot where he had initially disappeared. He later alighted at Udupi and survived on biscuits, chocolates, and water with his remaining coins. Having run out of money, he visited a D-Mart in Udupi, intending to buy new clothes, as the ones he was wearing had become old. However, since he couldn’t pay, he attempted to leave without paying but was caught by the store staff.
One of the staff members, who had been aware of the news about Diganth’s disappearance in Dakshina Kannada, became suspicious. They contacted his family after obtaining their phone number. The family then informed the Bantwal police, who passed on the information to the investigation team. The police immediately coordinated with Udupi police and took Diganth into custody.
Led by Sub-Inspector Nandakumar, a team of officers traveled to Udupi to bring Diganth back to Mangaluru. Upon his return, SP Yatish spoke to Diganth, provided him with food, and initiated legal proceedings. The boy has since been sent to the juvenile home in Bondel.
The highly intelligent Diganth, neglected by his family, had grown weary of life. His addiction to mobile phones and loss of interest in studies had compounded his struggles. Hoping to escape from his troubles, he aimlessly wandered until his eventual discovery. The persistent efforts of the Dakshina Kannada police have finally paid off, bringing this gripping case to a close.
