Mangalore, Feb 7, 2014: The Annual Kodial Theru or the Car Festival of the Sri Venkatramana Temple, Carstreet in Mangalore was celebrated with grandeur and religious fervour on February 6, Thursday. Thousands thronged the temple to be a part of the festivities and were soaked in devotion as the Kodial Theru was drawn by devotees.
Earlier , the idol of the deity placed in a tastefully decorated golden palanquin was taken around the temple and then installed in the Chariot or Theru outside the temple precincts. The rituals were performed by Srimad Samyameendra Theertha Swamiji, the anointed successor of Srimad Sudhindra Theertha Swamiji, the senior Pontiff of the Kashi mutt Samsthan of the GSB community.
In the morning, various rituals including Abhisheka was offered to the deities. Rituals including Gangabhisheka, Panchamrita and Shatakalashabhisheka were offered by the seer. Poonahuti was then offered at the Yajna Mantap.
The Temple celebrates Okuli today (Friday) to culminate the six day festivities.
