Mangalore, January 22: The famous ’Mangalore Car Festival’ or ’Kodial Theru" at Car Street, Mangalore was celebrated with religious fervour in the presence of Shree Sudheendra Tirtha Swamiji, the senior pontiff of Kashi Mutt.
Idols of Lord Venkateshwara (Vishnu) and Goddess Padmavathi (Lakshmi) ascended the ’Brahma Ratha’ or ’Big Theru’. The chariot was drawn down Car Street by eager devotees.
Thousands of devotees gathered at Temple Square to witness this great event which is celebrated every year as the most auspicious day of the six day long festival.
