Three interstate robbers arrested in Brahmavar gold chain snatching case; car seized

Brahmavar, April 27, 2025: In a major breakthrough, Brahmavar police have arrested three interstate robbers and seized a car worth Rs 10 lakh, allegedly used in a violent gold chain snatching incident.

The accused have been identified as Gaurish Rohidas Kerkar (37) of Porvorim, North Goa; Mainuddin Bagalkot (31) of Sindagi Taluk, Vijayapura district; and Surjit Gautam Khar (27) of Vile Parle (West), Mumbai, Maharashtra.


Robbing case


The incident occurred at Adarsh Nagar in Waramballi village, Brahmavar Taluk. As per a complaint lodged by 70-year-old Padma, she was plucking flowers on the concrete road outside her house on the morning of April 26 when a white car approached. A man in an orange T-shirt exited the vehicle, while 2-3 others remained inside, parking the car a short distance away toward Doopadakatte.

While Padma continued her task, she heard a noise behind her. As she turned around, the man assaulted her by striking the back of her head, causing her to fall. He then grabbed her hand, dragged her along the road, hit her on the face and upper lip, and snatched a gold chain weighing around 40 grams, valued at approximately Rs 2.5 lakh, from her neck. The assailant fled to the car with the chain and escaped with his accomplices.

Padma sustained bleeding injuries near her upper lip, under her right eye, and internal pain from the head injury. Following her complaint, a case was registered at the Brahmavar police station.

A special police team was formed under the leadership of CPI Brahmavar Gopikrishna K R, along with PSI Sudarshan Doddamani, PSI Mahantesh Jabagoud, PSI Puneeth B E from Hiriyadka station, and crime staff CHC Imran, CPC Mohammad Ajmal, and CPC Kiran from Brahmavar station; CPC Raghavendra and CPC Vijayendra from Kota station; CPC Karthik and CPC Hemant from Hiriyadka station; and ASI Krishnappa and Vishwanath Shetty from Brahmavar sub-division. The team, with assistance from Yellapur police officers including CPI Ramesh Hanapur, PSI Yallaling Kunnur, CHC Mohammad Shafi A Shaikh, CPC Girish Lamani, and MPC Shobharavar, successfully arrested the accused.

The arrested individuals will be produced before the court.
