Mangaluru/Udupi, Apr 6, 2025: Parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts experienced a sudden spell of summer rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds on Saturday evening, bringing much-needed relief from the prevailing heat and humidity.
Mangaluru city, which saw overcast skies in the morning, received light evening showers. Despite the cloud cover, humid conditions persisted throughout the day, with the maximum temperature touching 34.1°C and a minimum of 25°C.
Several areas across the region, including Puttur, Balnadu, Bettampady, Badagannur, Kadaba, Alankaru, Uppinangady, Hirebandadi, Beltangady, Bandaru, Karikkal, Sullia, Punacha, Bayaru, and Bantwal, reported moderate to heavy rainfall.
In Sullia taluk, localities such as Panja, Nintikallu, Kalmadka, Karikkal, Kukke Subrahmanya, Kulkunda, Kaikamba, and Bilinele witnessed heavy showers and strong winds on Saturday afternoon. Sullia town remained under cloud cover for most of the day, with intermittent drizzles adding to the wet spell.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for April 6 and 7, forecasting thunderstorms and further rainfall across coastal Karnataka.
