Mangalore, March 15: The top scores of the X Std Diocesan Catechism Examination 2009 - 2010 were honored at a felicitation programme organized by the Mangala Jyothi DBCLC at Shathi Kiran in Bajjodi on March 14, Sunday.

A talk titled “Called to be the Light of the World and the Salt of the Earth - the Christian Leadership” was held for the benefit of the top scorers and their parents. The resource person was Mr. J R Lobo, the executive director of Pilikula Nirsargadhama.

The felicitation programme commenced with a prayer song by the students of Sacred Heart’s High School, Kulshekar. Fr. Boniface Pinto made the welcome speech. 

Mr. Aloysius D’Souza, the headmaster of Rosario High School, was the chief guest of the event. He distributed the prizes to the winners of the Konkani article competition. Ms Audrin D’Souza of Agrar Primary School, Sr Chresence Rodrigues AC of St Joseph School Kundapur, and Mrs. Philomena D’Souza of Don Bosco AUP School Kayyar won the first, second, and third prize, respectively. Speaking about the importance of imparting Christian education, Mr. Aloysius urged parents to teach their children Christian values and prayers on a regular basis. 

Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza distributed prizes to 118 top scorers of the Std X Diocesan Catechism Examination. He congratulated the students and their parents and expressed his happiness that more and more children are taking part in catechism examinations. He also spoke about the importance of teaching children Christian values. 

Mrs. Mary Lobo proposed the vote of thanks. Mr. Anil Monteiro compered the entire programme before which a Mass was celebrated by the Bishop of Mangalore Diocese. A community lunch was served to everybody at the end of the programme.
