Transgenders need jobs, not sympathy: Manjamma Jogathi

Mangaluru, July 14, 2023: Transgenders are those who have the soul of a woman and power of a man. They do not need the sympathy of the society, but want job opportunities in accordance to their skills, said Padma Shree Manjamma Jogathi, theatre artiste, singer and dancer.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

She was  speaking at the inaugural of a seminar titled ‘Towards a Psychologically Healthy Community – Fostering Safe Spaces’ organised by Swastika National School, Canara High School Association, Anirvedha Resource Centre for Pyschological Wellbeing, Rotary Mangalore Down Town and Navasahaja Samudaya Sangha at TV Raman Pai Convention Centre on July 13, Thursday.

She also suggested that a meeting of the transgenders be convened in the city to discuss the issue of providing jobs to the eligible in various establishments, both private and government.

City Police Commissioner Kuldeep Kumar R Jain stressed the need to attach more importance to mental health. He said even the Police Department has mental health counsellors to help the police staff.

The programme was earlier inaugurated by Kadri Diwaker, CSNL Procurement HR (Administration).

Dr K T Shwetha, Director of Anirvedha Resource Centre for Pyschological Wellbeing, Vasudev Kamath, President of Canara High School Association,. Umesh Gatti, Secretary of Rotary Mangalore Downtown, Dr Malini N Hebbar, Principal of Swastika National School and others were present.

Maatha’, a drama based on the life of Manjamma Jogathi, directed by Belur Raghunandan was staged on the occasion.

 Manjamma Jogathi also participated in an interaction with the audience on the occasion. She was also felicitated on the occasion.
