Tree felling for Nanthur, KPT junction flyovers meets with stiff resistance from greens

Mangaluru, Oct 03, 2023: Several environmental activists staged a protest on October 3, Tuesday  at Padua opposing the felling of trees for construction of flyovers at KPT and Nanthur junctions. The protestors also succeeded in stopping the felling of trees. The protestors wrapped the felled trees with white clothes and garlanded it, as a mark of protest.

There is information that as many as 232 trees will be axed and 370 small trees would be shifted. The National Highways Authority of India had earlier sought the Forest Department permission to fell as many as 602 trees for the project.

The protestors said the tree felling was suspended after the DC intervened. They also said the authorities have not taken the environmentalists into confidence before embarking upon the task of clearing the trees for the flyover project.
