Mangalore, Jan 7: SDM College of Business Management in Mangalore inaugurated a 2-day national-level conference titled “Indian Banking System: Challenges Ahead,” sponsored by the UGC, on Jan 7, Friday. 


Karnataka Bank Chairman Ananthakrishna delivered the keynote address; Corporation Bank General Manager B. R. Bhat was the guest of honor; Yenepoya University Vice Chancellor Dr. P. Chandramohan presided.

The 2-day even will include a session on acquisition, mergers, and consolidation of banks. The resource persons will be Yogish Acharya, the chief manager of Canara Bank, and Prof. Ravichandran, the vice principal of Institute of Cooperative Management in Trivandrum.

The session on infrastructure financing and micro financing will presented by NABARD Principal M. M. Baheti and Prof. Chowdary Prasad of TAPMI in Manipal.

The session on technology in banking service will be presented by J. S. Shenoy, the DGM of Syndicate Bank, and Dr. Raghavendra Prakash, the associate professor of NITK Suratkal.

The session on innovations of new services and products and next generation banking will be presented by Satyamurthy, the DGM of SBI Mangalore, and Dr. Carmelita Goveas, the HOD of Commerce of Besant Women’s College Mangalore.

Vijay Bhaskar, the regional director of RBI Bangalore, will deliver the address at the valedictory programme. The conference is being organized with the objective of discussing various challenges faced by the banking sector and to identify ways to continuously ensure profitability and productivity, which is essential for its growth and viability.

A number of delegates from all over India will participate in this conference. Papers will be presented by a number of academicians, bankers, and research scholars.
