Prof. H.C. Boralingaiah, chairman of the Parishath, expressed pride in the recognition, noting it highlights Karnataka’s cultural contributions. The Parishath can now participate in international conferences, promote traditional knowledge globally, and potentially attract more tourists and funding for its initiatives.

Founded in 1979, the Parishath has played a crucial role in preserving folklore for 45 years. Its cultural center, Janapada Loka, located on the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway, is considered a unique hub for traditional art forms.

Additionally, the Idagunji Mahaganapati Yakshagana Mandali in Honnavar, Uttara Kannada, was also recognized by UNESCO. Its director, Keremane Shivananda Hegde, said the award would help revive and popularize the region’s folklore and art forms, many of which are at risk of fading away.

These recognitions are expected to enhance both institutions’ roles in preserving and promoting Karnataka’s rich cultural heritage on an international platform.
