Udupi, Oct 12, 2015 : Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt has urged Gautam Adani, Founder Chairman of Adani Group to ensure that the UPCL thermal plant which his Group has taken over does not cause inconvenience to local residents.
The seer’s appeal came when Adani met him at the Pejawar Mutt and sought his blessings after offering prayers to Lord Krishna at the Udupi Mutt, during his maiden visit to the temple town on October 11, Sunday.
The Swamiji while referring to recent reports that the UPCL would be expanded, appealed to Adani to ensure that the plant does not cause pollution and damage to the environment.
In response, Adani is learnt to have assured the seer that his company would duly take note of the problem and initiate all remedial measures.
Later, speaking to media men, the seer while referring to the Yettinahole Project, said he is not opposed to the project as long as it does not cause problems to the coastal district. However, It would be a great loss if the project failed to meet the expectations and was unable to supply water to the parched districts, he said while making a reference to some expert reports.
He also stated that he was unable to participate in the anti-Yettinahole protests as he had to make customary visits prior to ascending the Paryaya throne in January.
The seer who was in Athani had returned to the Mutt specifically to meet Adani. He later once again left for Athani.
