Dhanvantari Jayanthi is also known as Dhantrayodashi or Dhanwantari Triodasi or Dhanteras. On the day of Dhan teras people worship Goddess Mahalaxmi, the Goddess of wealth and prosperity, and also worship Dhanvantari, the God of health as per Hinduism. Dhanwanthari Jayanti is celebrated on the thirteenth day before Amavasya (No Moon day) in the month of Ashwin or Ashwayuja (October – November).

The Legend or the story of the birth of Dhanvantari:

At the time of Ksheer Sagar manthan (Churning of the Milk Ocean) by Gods and demons for nectar (Amrit), Lord Dhanvanthari emerged from the ocean carrying a pot of nectar in his hand. On the same day, Goddess Mahalaxmi was also born from the Milk Ocean. Hence, people celebrate the birthdays or Jayanthis of Goddess Mahalakshmi and Lord Dhanwantari on the same day and observe Dhan Trayodashi puja and Dhanvanthari pooja.
