Udupi, January 2, 2025: The Udupi Town police have arrested eight Ayyappa ‘Maladharis’, who were accused of creating a ruckus in front of Udupi Krishna Mutt and also assaulting a mutt personnel, the mutt’s diwan and a police constable.

The police gave names of the arrested persons as Shivakumar, Vishal, Raju, Naveenraj, Ravikiran, Bhanu, Upender, and Ravikanth from Hyderabad.

The police said the eight Ayyappa ‘Maladharis’ created a ruckus on December 29 night when there was a huge queue to get darshan of Lord Krishna. The Ayappa ‘Maladharis’ allegedly assaulted Mutt staff Jagadish and the Mutt Divan Nagaraj Acharya. The arrested persons also assaulted Udupi District Reserve Police Constable Ravindra. who was on security duty.

Based on the complaint by Mr. Ravindra, the town police arrested the eight Ayyappa ‘Maladharis’ and produced them before the jurisdiction court, the police said.
