Udupi, Mar 31, 2022: The State government has decided to take over the Koosamma Shambhu Shetty Memorial Haji Abdulla Mother and Child Hospital of Udupi. A sum of Rs 9.83 crore has also been approved for this 300 bed hospital with a plan to induct 103 additional staff members.
It may be recalled here that the staff of the hospital including doctors had staged protest for several days recently in protest against non-disbursement of salaries.
The hospital was entrusted to a private organisation led by NRI entrepreneur B R Shetty during the erstwhile Congress government under the leadership of Siddaramaiah. However, in developments later on, when the private firm could not manage the hospital, the services were badly affected.
Now, that the government has decided to take over the hospital, Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat has thanked the chief minister for helping the hospital tide over the crisis.
