Udupi, April 12, 2025: Members of Udupi District Mahila Congress under the leadership of Karnataka State Mahila Congress general secretary Sowmya Reddy hold protest against domestic LPG price rise on Friday, April 11, in Udupi.
Addressing the members, Ms. Reddy said the central government has done gross injustice to the women. Domestic LPG cylinder was available for ₹400 during the UPA rule whereas under the NDA rule, the price has risen to ₹1,000. The centre has hiked the price overnight even as it increased the central excise by ₹2 on petrol and diesel, she said.
At a time when the common man and woman are struggling to lead a decent life due to rise in prices of LPG and other commodities due to the policies of the central government, the BJP had no moral ground to organise Janakrosha Yatre against the Congress government in Karnataka, Ms. Reddy said.
Inaugurating a formal programme at the district Congress office, Ms. Reddy said the Congress was responsible for India gaining Independence. The five guarantee schemes of the Siddaramaiah government have uplifted the life of the common man.
Ms. Reddy noted that when the UPA was in power at the Centre, prices of essential commodities were within the reach of the common man. However, the NDA government has made the life of the common man miserable despite promising ‘achhe din,’ she ridiculed. While the BJP was dividing people on religion and caste basis, the Congress was uniting people, she said.
Former Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, Udupi District Congress President Ashok Kumar Kodavoor, Mahila Congress President Geetha Wagle and others were present.
