Udupi Muncipality plans online water bill payment system

Udupi: September 19, 2015: Standing in the lengthy queue to pay the water bills may no longer be your hassle anymore as City Municipality is now setting its foot into an online platform to make people assessable to pay their water bills through a click of button.

Once the facility is provided, one can make payments using credit/debit cards (VISA/Master) issued by any bank having net-banking service.

Till now, people had to pay their water bills through the payment counter opened in front of City Municipal office by waiting in queues.

Sources said that a link required to open the payment gateway will be incorporated in the official website of CMC (www.udupicity.gov.in).

There are about 16,000 metered water connections in Udupi city municipality and the property ID numbers of all the households will be accessed and linked to the software. Senior councilor Janardhan Bhandarkar told reporters that it was decided to introduce online payment mechanism to help the public pay their water bills at their convenient time.

"They need not wait in the queue as they can visit the official website of Udupi CMC and click on the link which will be provided soon. They can read the pending amount of their water bill and pay through net-banking," he said.

Sources in the district urban development cell told reporters that the software required for this facility will be ready within two months. This initiative is waiting the formal approval from the Deputy Commissioner, sources added.

After water bill payment is made online, city municipality will continue to send its personnel for meter reading purpose every month and manual payment option will, however, continue.
