Udupi Mutt bans pre-wedding video shoots on Ratha Beedi

Udupi, April 12, 2025: Paryaya Puthige Mutt has expressed strong displeasure over pre-wedding and other inappropriate video shoots along Ratha Beedi (Car Street) near Udupi Krishna Mutt, citing concerns over preserving the sanctity of the revered area.

Based on complaints received from devotees, the mutt decided not to allow shooting of videos — deemed inappropriate and embarrassing — making an indirect reference to pre-wedding shoots.

Speaking on the spiritual significance of Ratha Beedi, mutt representative Gopal Acharya told reporters that it hosts various festivals and is frequented by esteemed seers and dignitaries. "Ratha Beedi is a place of devotion and respect. In such a sacred place, it is not appropriate to shoot videos based on personal imaginations for individual gain, especially those that are unscientific and disrespectful," he explained.

Acharya stated that personal and pre-wedding shoots caused discomfort to both devotees and seers. Sri Sugunendra Tirtha Swami of Paryaya Puthige Mutt decided that henceforth video shoots contradicting the cultural ethos of the area will not be permitted on Ratha Beedi, in front of the chariot, the Krishna Mutt, and related locations.

Acharya urged the public to support this. The mutt’s authorities too have appealed to the community to respect the guidelines.
