Udupi, March 30, 2025: The parents of a 19-year-old woman have approached the High Court with a habeas corpus petition, alleging that their daughter has been abducted by Mohammad Akram, a resident of Karamballi.
A case was registered at the Udupi Town Police Station, and an investigation is underway. However, Udupi District Superintendent of Police, Dr. K. Arun, stated that local authorities had not received any official communication regarding the habeas corpus petition.
The complaint, filed by Godwin Devadas of Uddinahithlu, Kodavoor village, claims that his daughter, Jeena Maril, was abducted by Mohammad Akram. Following this, a habeas corpus petition was submitted to the High Court, and the woman is expected to be produced before the court on April 4.
According to police reports, an abduction case was lodged on March 20 at the Udupi Town Police Station. Investigations revealed that on March 19, Jeena Maril and Akram had applied for marriage at the Udupi Sub-Registrar’s Office. Additionally, the couple had submitted a letter stating that they had left voluntarily and were seeking police protection, as confirmed by Udupi District SP, Dr. K. Arun.
On March 28, the woman’s parents officially moved the High Court with their petition. During the hearing, legal representatives of Akram and Jeena Maril assured the court that she would be produced on April 4. The High Court has not issued any specific directives to the police regarding the matter, making it likely that she will appear before the court as scheduled.
Further developments in the case are awaited as the investigation continues.
