Udupi: Prof Surendra Rao Chosen for ’Govinda Pai memorial award’

Udupi, July 08, 2015: A press release on July 7 said that Historian and author B. Surendra Rao has been chosen for the annual ’Rashtrakavi Govinda Pai Memorial Award for 2015’. The award is given annually by the Rashtrakavi Govinda Pai Samshodhana Kendra here. Prof. Rao’s name was chosen by a selection committee comprising A. Laxminarayana Alva, B. Vaman Shenoy and H. Krishna Bhat.

govind pai The award would be presented to Prof. Rao at a function at MGM College Udupi on September 6.

Born in 1948, Prof. Rao did his postgraduation in history from the University of Mysore with three gold medals in 1970. He did his Ph.D. in 1976. He was lecturer at the Vivekananda College in Puttur from 1973 to 1982. He served as a Reader in the Department of Research and Studies in History at University of Mangalore from 1982 to 1993. He then served as Professor and Head of the Department till 2008. As a research guide, 12 researchers have got Ph.D. and six researchers their M.Phil. under his guidance.
