Udupi, Aug 29, 2015: The UPCL at Yellur in Udupi district has resumed power generation in one of its two 600 mw plants which had ceased to function since the past few days.
According to K Kishore Alva, Executive Director (Project Development and Corporate Affairs), UPCL, the power generation in one of the units resumed on Thursday and assured that the second unit too would resume operations by September 7.
The two units had stopped power generation a few days ago after silt got accumulated in the mouth of the pipeline supplying water from the Arabian sea to the plant.
He said arrangements have been made to pump sea water towards the plants by purchasing pumping machines and pipelines from Delhi as a temporary solution.
He also assured that the task of clearing the silt at the mouth of the pipes would complete during the first week of September after which even the second unit will be operational.
Alva also refuted allegations that the UPCL had released effluents into the storm water drains.
