Udupi: Women Have Proved Their Strength in Every Field, Says Sri Sugunendra Thirtha Swami

Udupi, Mar 9, 2025: Women have made their mark in every sphere of life, demonstrating resilience and capability, said Sri Sugunendra Thirtha Swami of Paryaya Shri Puttige Mutt. He was speaking at the International Women’s Day celebration held at Shri Krishna Mutt on Saturday. The event was jointly organized by the district administration, zilla panchayat, District Legal Services Authority, Women and Child Development Department, Kannada and Culture Department, Taluk Women’s Organisations Federation, District and Taluk Stree Shakti Federation, and Paryaya Shri Puttige Mutt.

Sri Sugunendra Thirtha Swami emphasized that progress comes with a positive mindset and a focus on improving one’s standard of living. "If we believe we are incapable and remain idle, we cannot advance in life," he said. Drawing parallels between soldiers safeguarding the nation and women managing family responsibilities, he lauded women for balancing challenges with strength and urged society to respect and honor them.

Deputy Commissioner Vidya Kumari highlighted the shift in women’s roles over the years. "While women in the past were confined within four walls, they now excel in every sector. However, gender discrimination persists, and eliminating these biases is crucial to ensuring equality and dignity for women," she said. She urged women to utilize government schemes and actively participate in societal development.

The DC also stressed the importance of girl-child education and fostering an environment where women can achieve leadership positions.

The event featured insightful sessions from resource persons. Dr. Nirmala Kumari, Director of Vaikunta Baliga Law College, spoke about women’s legal rights, while entrepreneur Divya Rani discussed how modern women can advance with self-confidence.

An exhibition of products made by women was inaugurated ahead of the formal program, showcasing the talent and entrepreneurial spirit of women in the region.
