Mangalore, Oct 26, 2013 : Friday prayers or Juma Kutba Namaz were offered at the Mohiuddin Jumma Masjid at Ullal for the second consecutive Friday on October 25 despite an interim order issued by the Karnataka State Wakf Board urging people not to offer namaz at the masjid until further orders.
Police maintained strict vigil outside the Mohiuddin Jumma Masjid, located close by the famous Syed Madani Darga of Ullal, on Friday to ensure peace as the place had witnessed untoward incidents during last week’s Friday prayers resulting in lathi charge and injuries to six persons including a few police personnel.
On October 25, Friday police wanted to ensure no one offered namaz at the new masjid as per the Wakf Board orders and even took into custody, Mustafa, the President of the Masjid Managing Committee when he along with six others tried to enter the masjid to offer prayers.
However, Mustafa said over 50 people have offered namaz at the masjid and added those who arrived for the early morning prayers remained at the masjid till noon to offer prayers.
Meanwhile, ACP (South ) Pavan Nejjur who was on duty near the masjid said as per the Wakf Board ruling no one was allowed inside the masjid. “However, the police do not know what was going on inside,” he said.
It is learnt, the Board has promised that a solution would be found to the impasse within a fortnight after taking the khazis into confidence.
