Mangalore, Dec 26: The Government Employees District Convention – 2009 was inaugurated by District in-charge Minister, J Krishna Palemar in Mangalore on Saturday, December 26. It was also an occasion for the foundation stone laying ceremony of a community hall at the Taluk Panchayath compound.
Veerappa Moily, Union Minister for Law and Justice, laid the foundation stone for the community Hall. Speaking on the occasion he appreciated the effort taking by the employees and wished them for more efforts for the betterment of the district in the times to come.
Krishna J Palemar, District in charge minister in his inaugural speech said that there is corruption every where, but Dakshina Kannada has maintained its reputation for the least corrupt district to a great extent. He also said that the government employees in Dakshina Kannada face less problem compared other districts.
“I understand that government employees have a lot of burden and tension. It does mean that they should loose temper and get angry with the public. You must be kind and courteous in serving the public. I am sure the public will support them in turn.
The Right to Information Act is one that makes the public to seek information on any matters concerning them or the government decisions. This is enacted to make the governmental service transparent to the people, he said. People have the right to information on any activities of the government. The law has reduced the corruption in various departments he added.
Santhosh Kumar Bhandary, president, Zilla Panchayath, said that any association, District Administration, Zilla Panchayat and government must respond to the government employee’s problem. MLA Ramanath Rai, MLA Yogish Bhat, Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj, Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel, MLA U T Khader, MLA Abhaychandra Jain and B Ashok Hegde, Karnataka Bank, were present on the occasion.
