Uppinangady, February 22, 2025: A dramatic incident unfolded on Thursday night during the grand festivities of the Sri Sahasralingeshwara Temple when word spread that a young man had jumped into the river.
As the temple’s chariot festival was in full swing, police officers suddenly rushed towards the confluence of the Netravati and Kumaradhara rivers, drawing the attention of curious devotees who followed them. Rumors quickly circulated that a man had leaped into the river, sparking concern among the crowd.
However, the absence of distress or rescue efforts from his family only deepened the intrigue. As the situation unraveled, the real story came to light.
The individual in question was a wanted criminal, recognized by police officers deployed for festival security. Realizing he had been spotted, he attempted to escape and, in a desperate bid to evade arrest, jumped into the Netravati River. From the middle of the river, he taunted the officers, daring them to catch him.
To prevent chaos during the festival, the police maintained a discreet approach while keeping a close watch on where he might reach the shore. Despite their efforts, the suspect managed to evade capture and escape.
