Mangalore, Nov 13: Deepa Naik, the woman who was allegedly kidnapped by Ullal MLA U T Khader about a month ago, returned and told Pandeshwar police on Nov 13, Friday that nobody had abducted her.
Ms Naik, who obtained her master’s degree in constitutional law from Bangalore University Law College, stated that the charges filed against the MLA at Sampigehalli Police Station in Bangalore are false and that she had requested him to help her escape from a rehabilitation center in Bangalore, where she was allegedly harrassed. She said that her sister Bina Rai, along with her husband Ramanath Rai, certified her as mentally imbalanced in order to rob her of her inheritance.
Informing the Pandeshwar police that she was mentally fit, she declared that her sister and her brother-in-law had first taken her to a psychiatrist. In 2006, they admitted her into a rehabilitation center in Basavanagudi, Bangalore. She said that they beat her up with an iron rod at the rehabilitation center if she dared to protest. She said: “I was locked up in a room and tortured. Sometimes, I was asked to clean toilets and do other hard manual work.”
She stated: “U T Khader, the MLA of Ullal constituency, is the son of my father’s friend UT Fareed. I requested him to help me escape from the rehabilitation center. He managed to free me from the rehabilitation center on August 20; and I stayed at his friend’s house in Bangalore before coming to Mangalore on August 23, 2009.”
