Mangaluru, April 05, 2023: Chandravathi (30) of Kudupu, the brave woman whose presence of mind had averted a train mishap, was felicitated by the officials of the Mangaluru Central Railway Station on April 4, Tuesday.
Mangaluru Railway Police Inspector Mohan Kottari and other police personnel honoured Chandravathi and praised her exemplary act. Chandravathi’s son Naveen Kumar Kudupu and relative Uday Kudupu were also present.
It may be recalled here that Chandravathi who saw a tree falling on the railway track near her house and realizing that this would result in an accident had rushed to her house and brought a red cloth which she waved at the loco pilot of the oncoming Matsyagandha Express. The locopilot who noticed this had slowed down the train and stopped it near the place where the tree had fallen on the track. Later the tree was removed by the fire service personnel after which the train commenced its journey.
Western Coastal Railway Travellers Development Committee president Hanumantha Kamath has dashed off letters commending Chandravathi’s brave act to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Southern railway DRM, general manager and also recommended a suitable reward to the woman for the timely act.
