Mangaluru, March 21, 2025: Deputy Commissioner M.P. Mullai Muhilan on Thursday, March 20, asked stakeholders to work on introducing a unified command to ensure safety from mishaps and calamities in industrial and residential zones in the district.
He was speaking after inaugurating the 54th National Safety Day organised by National Safety Council, Mangaluru Action Centre in association with Karnataka State Safety Institute, Department of Factories, Boilers, Industrial Safety and Health here.
The Deputy Commissioner said a variety of industrial establishments, including those under high-risk category, were functional in Dakshina Kannada district. Those establishments should periodically test their safety system and take suitable measures to ensure any hazard, if occurred, does not spread to other areas.
In this regard, industrial establishments should have a unified safety command in association with all departments and safety agencies concerned. This would avoid or reduce the loss of life and properties, Mr. Muhilan said. Even citizens should periodically evaluate their safety parameters, he added.
Factories and Boilers Department Joint Director Narendrababu, Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Ltd., Director (Refinery) Nandakumar Velayudhan Pillai, Mangaluru Chief Fire Officer B.M. Tirumalesh, National Safety Council, Mangaluru Action Centre Coordinator P.F. Mariyannanavar, Factories and Boilers Department Deputy Director M.S. Mahadev and others were present.
