Worker washed away as water pipe bursts at Nagori

Mangalore, Dec 22, 2012:  A labourer  engaged in  works on a drain at Simon Lane, Nagori in Mangalore  was washed away due to a  water pipe burst, while three other workers  have managed to escape. The incident took place at around 3.30 pm on December 22, Saturday, when a JCB earth mover was undertaking digging operations nearby and damaged a water pipeline.

The missing worker has been identified as Raju (25) from Andhra Pradesh and search for him is currently on. Initial reports said all the four labourers who were inside the drain were caught unawares when there was the sudden burst of the water pipe during the digging works by the JCB.

Fire service personnel and the police have rushed to the spot. A large crowd too has gathered in the area.

According to the local corporator Jacintha Boromeo the work on connecting drainage pipes was  underway in the area.
