Mangaluru, Dec 05, 2022: Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in collaboration with Dept of Orthopedics celebrated the International day of Persons with Disability on Saturday, Dec 3rd, 2022. Main theme of the day was “ Understanding and Enabling the abilities in Persons with Disability”. The program started with invocation and prayers followed by series of talks by senior faculties.

Dr. Vikram Shetty, (Professor and Head, Dept of Orthopedics) explained about spinal injury and need of rehabilitation in such patients. He also motivated them to look forward and become independent to achieve their goals in life. Dr. Seema Pavaman(Professor, Dept of Pediatrics) explained about childhood disablilities and their treatment options. She also reinforced the need of comprehensive rehabilitation for better outcome.  

Dr. Sushil Chugh (Head, Dept of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation) spoke about various complications and their prevention in persons with disability. Mr. Lakshman (Deputy manager, Purchase dept) spoke about his own life after he sustained spinal cord injury. He motivated everyone with his own examples of struggle and reaching the current level of success. He particularly stressed on the point that now PMR department is available within city of Mangalore and everyone should take advantage of this. During his time, there was no department and he has to go out to Vellore to take treatment. Some of the patients also shared their own stories of struggle and success. Program was concluded with games and refreshments for the patients.
