10-day India International Film Festival to be held in city

Mangalore, Jan 21, 2011: IIFF Mangalore 2011 and Film & Multi- Media Commission (FMC) in association with Madhusudan Education Foundation (MEF) will organize a 10-day film festival at Sahodaya (KACES), Balmatta, Mangalore, on February 18, Friday to February 27, Sunday.  

Speaking at a press meet held at Sahodaya, Madhusudan Kumar of MEF said that the IIFF is ready with 300 feature and short films of different genres from India and all over world in the DVD format with subtitles along with endorsements to screen by the makers-producers and directors.

 

 

India International Film Festival 2011, with a slogan “Cinema for All” is an original concept by Karan Samarth of FMC to organize film festivals in the metro cities as well as the small towns of India. It proposes to screen international feature films – short, documentary and animation films in DVD format followed by discussions led by international panels of speakers.He also said that, after Mangalore, FMC and MEF will take these packages of IIFF to Mumbai and Thane by April and May 2011.

Speaking about the short film corner, Karan Samarthh of FMC said that a separate section of international documentary, short & animation films will be screened along with active participation by filmmakers of various countries, which will enhance the grandeur of the festival.  

Daily attractions at IIFF will be new films’ premiers and promotions with their cast and crew.

IIFF Mangalore 2011 will organize a seminar titled “Digital Film Technology - Future of Cinema and Film Restoration,” during which experts in the field will read and distribute papers.

IIFF Mangalore is being hosted by Karnataka Christian Educational Society at its lush green, serene Sahodaya Campus with three halls to screen the international films. Artists Centre (Mumbai) and Artists’ Combine (Mangalore) will organize an exhibition of art by local artists, along with musical performances.

In a nutshell, IIFF Mangalore will be held in tandem with NFDC, Films Division, CFSI, ICCR, FTII, FAMU, Czech Republic, L. V. Prasad Film & Television Academy, Chennai, Karavali  Belli  Mandala  Film  Society, Sahamata Film Society, KACES, Artists’ Combine, Artists ’ Centre, Jagat Arts, Hasta  Gallery  Projects, Mangalore Today, Inn, Hindustan Samachar, and many more.  

The event will also feature MEF organized art, literature, music & theatre performances by famous and upcoming performers in Mangalore, Pune and Mumbai, featuring veterans like Alyque Padamsee, and Gary Richardson, to name a few.

Film & Multimedia Commission is organizing film technique and film production workshops through FTA. FMC is also providing film production facilities to foreign film productions or working with co-productions tie up.

He also said that, around 10,000 people are expected to participate, including adults, students, and youngsters in the film festival. The organization will screen more than 50 full length films in 10 days, he said, adding that it is a healthy trend that many international film festivals are being conducted in Mangalore.
