1killed in trailer-bike hit near KPT ; irate public protest against RTO, cops

Mangalore, March 23, 2013 : In a tragic incident, a bike rider was killed and another left with critical injuries after their bike hit a trailer from behind, when the RTO  staff were undertaking a   checking of vehicles on the Highway, without putting up barricades.

The incident took place near the Landmark building near KPT on March 23, Saturday morning at around 10 am. Irate public who gathered at the spot, have demanded action against the RTO personnel for their negligence.


The  mishap took place when a trailer carrying iron rods applied sudden brake when the RTO intercepted the same. The bike riders who were behind the trailer were taken  unawares as a result of which the bike collided against  the trailer. Though the two riders were immediately rushed to the AJ Hospital, one of them succumbed to his injuries.


Inhumane RTO staff : No sooner the mishap took place and the bike riders were on the ground  battling for life, the RTO staff instead of assisting in shifting them to the hospital, fled the place by abandoning their vehicle. The public who gathered at the spot   have put up an adamant stand that the vehicle should not be moved from the place unless the RTO authorities arrived.


The gathered public complained that the RTO personnel    wait  at some dangerous spots and intercept vehicles which many a  time take motorists behind unaware.


Presently, ACP Subrahamanya is at the spot and holding talks with the agitators. Regional Transport Officer  Mallikarjuna too rushed to the spot and assured to initiate action against the erring staff namely Ravindra and Vishwanath. Meanwhile, the trailer driver complained that the RTO staff had  intercepted his vehicle by placing their Bolero vehicle mid road and  took away his RC permit and a cash of Rs 2000.
