Mangaluru, July 27, 2018: Eight deer horns were found in the bag of a woman at the Mangaluru International Airport recently. The Police have registered a case against the woman’s father who had come to see off his daughter.
It has been gathered that the 56 year old woman who is a US citizen was scheduled to leave for Bengaluru from here and from there to the US. However when her luggage passed through the scanner officials grew suspicious. On checking they found the deer horns. On questioning, she said she was taking it to the US to use it for decorative purpose at her home. The officials who believed her let her off and allowed her to travel to Bengaluru. The forest officials were informed and subsequently they seized the deer horns.
The woman’s father is learnt to have confessed before the officials that the deer horns were kept in his daughter’s bag to use it for decorative purpose and also that they were unaware that this was unlawful and one needs permission from the Forest department to keep such things at home. The person has been booked under Section 39 of the Wildlife Protection Act.
