9 Bangladeshis with fake Aadhaar cards arrested for illegal stay in Udupi

Udupi, October 12, 2024: Nine Bangladeshi nationals have been apprehended by the police for illegally residing in India without valid passports and visas. The individuals had been staying in Malpe, Udupi district for the past three years.

According to Udupi Superintendent of Police Dr. Arun K., the case came to light when one of the accused, Mohammed Maniq, attempted to flee to Dubai using a fake passport via Mangaluru airport. Immigration officials became suspicious and handed him over to the Bajpe police in Dakshina Kannada district, where a case was registered.

During questioning, Maniq revealed that eight other Bangladeshi nationals were also staying with him in Hoode without proper documentation. Upon receiving this information, Malpe police conducted a raid on the residence in Hoode on Friday, detaining the remaining seven suspects.

Further investigation revealed that all nine individuals were in possession of fake Aadhaar cards. The police are now investigating how these fake documents were obtained and how the group managed to cross the Bangladesh-India border undetected.

A case has been registered against the nine accused, and they are currently in police custody. SP Dr. Arun K. confirmed that the suspects will be presented before the court. The investigation is ongoing to uncover any further involvement in the production of fake identification documents.
