A delightful folk art festival underway in Udupi

Udupi, Sep 27, 2013 :  A whole new world of folk art has opened up at the Rajangana of the Sri Krishna Mutt of Udupi since September 25.

The occasion is a five day Rashtriya Janapada Kala Vaibhava, a national folk art festival which commenced  here on September 25 under the aegis of the  Sri Krishna Mutt and Paryaya Sode Vadiraj Mutt. Folk artiste teams from various states across the nation  are taking part in the festival which was inaugurated by Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swamiji of Pejawar Mutt.

A  grand procession featuring folk artistes in their colourful costumes, was taken out from Jodukatte to Rajangana prior to the inaugural function.

Sri Vidyasagara Theertha  Swamiji of Krishnapura Mutt, Sri Vishwavallabha Theertha Swamiji of Paryaya Sode Vadiraja Mutt and  Sri Vidyadheesha Theertha Swamiji of Palimar Mutt were present as chief guests at the inaugural function.

The  festival began with ‘Pooja Kunitha’ by the Karnataka team. This was followed by ‘Bihu’ dance from Assam, Manipuri classical dance, a tribal Gujarati dance called  ‘Sidhigoma,’ ‘Bedary’ from Madhya Pradesh, and ‘Koli’ dance from Maharashtra.  The special attraction was a Karnataka Dollu Kunitha by women from the state.

Curtains will be drawn to the folk festival on September 29.
