Currently, 14 lakh children in India are suffering from cleft lip and palate. If neglected, the condition can not only disfigure the face, but also affect normal speech, hearing, and teething. A plastic surgery procedure can easily correct the deformity and help the patient lead a normal life.

The camp is being organized by Rotary International District 3180 in collaboration with AJ Hospital and Research Centre, Unity Hospital, and Kshema Hospital in Chamrajnagar, Kodagu, Mysore, Hassan, Shimoga, Chickmagalur, DK, and Udupi.

A. J. Shetty, the president of AJ Group of Institutions, was the chief guest of the programme. He said that this year-long camp is free for people suffering from cleft lip and palate in DK and its surrounding regions.

B. Ashok Hegde, the general manager of Karnataka Bank, urged people to use this rare opportunity because they would be getting for free a treatment that actually costs Rs. 25,000.

On the same day, the DK District Taxi and Maxicab Drivers’ Association organized a blood donation camp in collaboration with AJ Hospital in the hospital premises on Aug 7, Saturday.
