Mangaluru, March 15, 2025: The suspect in a hit-and-run case, accused of deliberately ramming his car into a bike in an attempt to kill the rider, was presented before the court and remanded to judicial custody.
The accused, Satish Kumar K M, allegedly harbored a personal grudge against his neighbor, Murali Prasad. Determined to harm him, Satish lay in wait for Murali to pass by on his bike. The moment Murali rode past, Satish accelerated his car, aiming to crash into him.
However, at that precise moment, a pedestrian, Yallavva, was walking along the same stretch. The speeding car struck her first before colliding with Murali Prasad’s bike. The impact sent Yallavva flying into a nearby house’s compound wall, where she became entangled in an iron fence.
Yallavva sustained severe leg injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital. Murali Prasad, the injured biker, is also hospitalized. The incident occurred on Thursday at around 8:30 AM.
Locals Demand Strict Action
Shocked by the severity of the incident, residents blamed it on an unresolved personal dispute and called for stringent action against Satish Kumar. They claimed the tragedy could have been avoided if authorities had taken earlier complaints against him seriously.
In 2023, Satish had reportedly hit Murali Prasad’s father, a retired municipal employee, with his bike, causing injuries. However, he was let off with a mere warning. Since then, he had been involved in frequent altercations with locals. Residents are now demanding stricter measures to prevent such reckless behavior in the future.
What If Schoolchildren Were Present?
The accident occurred on an internal road frequently used by schoolchildren, raising serious safety concerns. Residents fear the consequences could have been even more catastrophic had children been present at the time. They have urged the police to take decisive action and ensure such incidents do not happen again.
