Acharya presents DDs for Rs. 11.61 crore for development work

Udupi, April 10: Dr. V. S. Acharya, the state higher education minister, presented a DD for Rs. 1.61 crore and a DD for Rs. 10 crore to Assistant District Commissioner T. M. Prabhakar to launch renovation projects and development work announced by the CMC. The DD for Rs. 10 crore handed over by Acharya forms part of a Rs. 25-crore package sanctioned by CM B. S. Yeddyurappa on the occasion of the CMC platinum jubilee last year.

In his address, Acharya said that the government has earmarked funds to upgrade all the temples in the state in 3 phases during the fiscal year 2010 – 11. The government had released Rs. 70 crore for the first installment, Rs. 65 crore for the second installment, and Rs. 37 crore for the third installment, he said.


During the first phase, around 42 temples in the district were given a facelift, and during the second and the third phases, the district commissioner will receive around Rs. 4.35 crore to renovate temples. He added that 103 temples will be benefited by this programme.


The temple administration committees will be appointed as soon as the government receives the Supreme Court directive. Each committee will have nine members, he said.
