Alva’s Nudisiri 2010 draws to a close

Moodbidri, Oct 31: Alva’s Nudisiri 2010, a 3-day extravaganza of music, dance, culture, and literature, came to an end with Nudisiri award winners urging one and all to preserve and protect their rich culture. Alva’s Nudisiri Awards were conferred on 10 achievers during the valedictory ceremony of this cultural festival at Sundari Ananda Alva Campus of Alva’s Educational Foundation on Oct 31, Sunday.

Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade felicitated the 10 achievers with a shawl and a bowl of fruits. The award comprised a memento, Rs. 10,000, and a citation. Dr. G. S. Amura (literature), Dr. Shimoga Subbanna (light music), Dr. M. Veerappa Moily (social service), Dr. M. M. Kalburgi (research), Dr. N. Leelavathi (cinema), Dr. Santhosh Kumar Gulvady (journalism), Dr. Basarvaraj Raja Rishi (spirituality), Dr. Balipa Narayana Bhagavatha (yakshagana), Dr. K. P. Putturaya (literature), and Prof B. Jayaprakash Gowda (organization) were the achievers who received the awards.

Accepting the honour bestowed on him, Union Minister for Law M. Veerappa Moily said that only the common people can protect the culture of their country and added that the government can only facilitate the process by providing legislative support. Stressing the need to begin the process of protecting and preserving our culture and literature, he said that this should be a movement of the common people. He also lauded Dr. Mohan Alva for organizing various cultural festivals such as Nudisiri, Virasat, and others.

President of Alva’s Nudisiri Vaidehi said that one needs enthusiasm and determination to build one’s culture and mother land and that Nudisiri fills people with enthusiasm about their own culture.

A number of dance performances marked the end of Alva’s Nudisiri 2010. Dr. M. Mohan Alva, the chief organizer of Nudisiri, informed the audience that the next Nudisiri will be a grander affair with new features. He also urged the people of Karnataka to participate in the Nudisiri in large numbers.

 Dr. V. S. Acharya, the state minister for higher education; MLC Ganesh Karnik; Ananda Alva; MLAs Shrinivas, Abhayachandra Jain, and Gopal Bhandary; former minister K. Amarnatha Shetty; and Jayashree Amarnath Shetty were also present.
