Mangaluru, April 5, 2025: Former Chairman of Karnataka State Minorities Commission Anwar Manipaddy has complained that he received threat calls since Thursday, April 3, following reference to his report on encroachment of waqf properties made by MPs while speaking in Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, April 2 and Thursday, April 3.
Mr. Manippady said calls were made through internet. While the callers spoke in English, Malayalam, Hindi, Kannada and Tulu, one caller spoke in a foreign accent.
The Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal called and asked him to lodge a complaint at the nearest police station. “As I am unwell, I drafted the complaint and sent the same through a relative of mine to the Mangaluru East police,” he said.
As making threat calls is non-cognizable offence, the police registered his complaint as a ‘non-cognizable’ case. In an acknowledgement issued to Mr. Manipaddy on Friday, the police asked him to approach the 6th JMFC Court in Mangaluru and get permission for registering an FIR.
Mr. Manippady said that he is surprised with acknowledgement issued by the Mangaluru City Police. In the earlier instance of a threat call in Bengaluru, FIR was registered soon after he called the Bengaluru Police Commissioner and reported about it.
“I am contemplating legal action for such a conduct of the city police officials,” Mr. Manippady said.
