Aryabhata award winning Yakshagana artiste Cherkady Kamalaksha Prabhu no more

Manipal, November 19, 2024: Aryabhata Award winning Yakshagana artiste Cherkady Kamalaksha Prabhu passed away on November 19 at a hospital in Manipal due to a brief illness. He was 59.

Kamalaksha was the Convenor of Manipal Saralebettu  Bala Mitra Yakshagana Mandali and has left behind his wife, two sons and a large number of admirers.

Prabhu played a key role in training children in the art of yakshagana and through his Bala Mitra Yakshagana Mandali had presented children’s Yakshagana shows across the nation and even abroad.

He was also instrumental in organizing a Yakshagana performance for the first time at the Sri Rama Mandir at Ayodhya with the support of Pejawar seer.

Prabhu who worked in the Opthalmology Department of KMC Hospital, Manipal had recently retired from service.
