Asha Jyothi organized special event for special kids

Mangalore, January 9: The Asha Jyothi of Canara High School organized “Special Mela for the Disabled” on Jan 9, Sunday, giving around 800 special kids the opportunity to dance to drum beats, fly colorful kites, take rides on giant wheels, and eat orange candies, chaat, and ice creams. The kids also participated in activities such as swinging cradles, Bethaala Kunitha, and free falls with ropes tied around their waists.

Besides fun galore, the event also included medical check ups and information camps, where details regarding government schemes and facilities for the special kids were given to children and caregivers. A number of speech therapists, various osteopathologists, pediatricians, physiotherapists, and gynecologists participated in the event.

Mayor Rajani Dugganna inaugurated the mela and said that special kids deserve special attention not only from the government, but also from the general public. State Commissioner for Disabilities K. V. Rajanna presided over the inaugural programme. MCC Commissioner Dr. K. N. Vijaya Prakash, Corporation Bank Assistant General Manager K. P. Achaiah, and GT Foundation Managing Trustee Dr. Ravichandran were the chief guests.

Asha Jyothi President B. Shrinivas Rao welcomed the gathering; and Seva Bharathi Trustee U. V. Shenoy delivered the introductory address.
