Asha Nayak of CWC ends tenure amidst positive results

Mangalore, July 9, 2014: Speaking to media here on  July 9  marking the end of her tenure in CWC, here coming to an end, Asha Nayak expressed  gratitude to all those who  extended their active co-operation to the Child and Womens Welfare Committee (CWC).

Asha Nayak, went on to state  that the CWC brought to closure 1121 cases out of the total around 1138 cases that came before it during her tenure of three years and nine months.  Nayak further said of the total cases, 17 are being investigated and are before various courts. She indicated a sum of Rs 7.15 lakh has been spent towards the education of 125 beneficiary students.

The CWC has also handled over 50 cases of sexual assaults  on minors  under Prevention of Child Sexual Offences Act. It has also  rehabilitated and counselled the minor victims. She also informed that 37 children have been  given for adoption to government recognised institutions.

According to Ms.Nayak, efforts were also made to enlighten the public on the ill-effects of child labour, prevention of atrocities on children and on child rights. She said CWC has been assisted by the Wenlock Government Hospital, Yenepoya Medical College, NITK-Suratkal, Balasanjeevini, Police Department and Department of Women and Child Welfare. She also thanked the media for its support and timely action.  Lavanya Shetty, Mamatha Kotian and Manjula Rao of CWC were also present on the occasion.
