Assault on Dalit woman in Malpe port: 5 accused remanded to judicial custody; 2 cops suspended

Udupi, March 22, 2025: The five persons arrested in the case of assaulting a Dalit woman in the Malpe port have been produced before the Udupi District and Sessions Court. All of them have been remanded to judicial custody till April 2. Those arrested are Lakshmi, Shilpa, Sunder, Parvathi and Leela.

Meanwhile two beat constables including Head Constable Suresh and Constable Nagaraj have been suspended for not gathering proper information regarding this incident which has sparked massive outrage.

The State Women’s Commission has strongly condemned the incident and has directed the police department to immediately swing into action, initiate legal action and file a comprehensive report, informed District Superintendent of Police Dr Arun K.
